CivLabs is a research server. The rules below exist to moderate behavior and keep everything fair.

1. / 01

   No Metagaming

   If you don't know, metagaming is when you discuss in-game topics and events outside of the game. We want to see what naturally emerges when players face new conditions in Minecraft without outside influence. Coordination that happens outside of the game undermines the objective of our experiment.

   • 1A. Don't communicate with others about in-game topics outside of the game

     Please don't talk about what is happening inside the game from outside of the game (e.g. wars, strategies, locations, etc). Please don't share any maps, newspapers, photos, etc you make outside of the game until the trial has ended. You may not be in a voice call with others during an event or streaming the event in any way. Do not utilize outside incentives or methods to influence player behaviour.

   • 1B. Keep your identity inside the game separate from your identity outside of the game

     Inside the game: don’t share information that links to you outside of the game like your Discord name, youtube channel or other socials. This also applies to sharing other people’s identity. Outside the game: don’t reveal which player you are in the game (in-game name, skin, location, civilization, etc).

   • 1C. Don’t share plans or create groups before the event starts

     Don't strategize or pre-plan what you will do in the game with other people unless you are in the game. Don’t plan on teaming with people before the event starts. Prior planning of activities, behavior, skin usage, and/or any methods of mutual recognition is not allowed. Don't tell others about your plans or goals for an event.

   • 1D. It's okay to share certain information about the game

     After a trial has ended you can share whatever you want about the game including your in-game name, videos, screenshots or anything else. You may freely discuss game features that are public knowledge. This would include plugin knowledge, mining strategies or building techniques. Documentation including wiki entries, maps and newspapers about events in the game should only be published after the trial ends.

   Don't Cheat

   Don't ruin this experience for everyone by cheating. Let's all just play fair, use the approved mods, and not exploit mechanics that give unfair advantages.

   • 2A. No hacking or modifying the game in unapproved ways

     Don't use hacked clients or unfair mods like minimaps or coordinate HUDs Don't use macros or other unfair exploits Please only use the approved mods listed here: ⁠#mod-list If you have a question on if a specific mod is considered approved or denied, ask a moderator in a ticket in #support.

   • 2B. Don't try to evade penalties

     If you've been banned or muted please don't use alt accounts to evade your ban If you need to use an minecraft alt for special circumstances, contact a mod using #support. If not approved your account may potentially be banned Do not try to bend or find loopholes to the rules If you are banned or muted please appeal at https://appeals.wickbot.com/

   Be Respectful

   This experiment can only work if everyone is respectful. This is a PG-13 server so refrain from inappropriate topic matter. Conversations should be held in English while on the server.

   • 3A. Be kind to everyone

     Don't harass anyone, if they ask you to stop please respect that. No hate! Slurs, discrimination, or bullying will not be tolerated! Don't try to upset others by trolling, rage baiting or trying to cause a commotion. Please keep all political/religious talk in #⁠off-topic. You are allowed to discuss it as long as the topic doesn't become hostile, which includes causing arguments or attacking groups of people, discussions of recent assassinations, genocides, war crimes, etc.

   • 3B. Don't share anything that's gross.

     Please refrain from sharing something that is NSFW, shocking, gory or disturbing. This includes suggestive images, sexual innuendos, gifs, audio, etc. Don't make sexual insinuations involving community members. You shouldn't ship or make fanart involving community members without their consent.

   • 3C. Please don't add noise to the discourse.

     Do not send walls of text or any AI content including any generated text or images. Avoid spreading misinformation, refer others to #⁠faq. Try not to spam, it makes it difficult for others to be heard. This includes walls of text, images, embeds, reactions, gifs, etc. It is also considered spam to ping a server member repeatedly or for unnecessary reasons. Avoid sharing promotions or malicious links if it's not relevant to the discussion. Any minecraft or Civlab related promotions should be sent in #self-promo. Refrain from sending quotes, statements, or other content related to banned participants while their ban remains in effect. Any breaches to Discord Terms of Service will result in a removal from the server.

Enforcement

Moderators watch for rule breaks, in-game during sessions and in discord channels and VCs. Report any breach by opening a ticket in #support, ideally with a screenshot or recording. The Civlab team has the final say in any punishments handed out for breaking these rules.
